Wrocław-based biopharmaceutical company Biotts has filed a patent application for transdermal semaglutide and other GLP-1 molecules in the US and plans to launch the finished product by the end of 2026. According to Reuters, the market for semaglutide and similar drugs using GLP-1 analogues will reach $100 billion in annual sales this decade.
The company also announced that a six-month human clinical trial of the MTC-Y carrier with the anti-diabetic drug dapagliflozin has been completed with positive results. The study confirmed the safety and efficacy of the carrier. Analysis of the pharmacokinetic and laboratory parameters measured indicated the therapeutic potential of dapagliflozin delivered transdermally via the patented MTC-Y carrier, representing another milestone in the development of the company’s proprietary and patented transdermal technology.
